Illusion of the Sun Going Down (2015)
Illusion of the Sun Going Down is a 2-channel video project (video diptych).
Of course we all know that the sun doesn’t actually go down. It is an illusion created by the Earth spinning around. Nevertheless, there is an undeniable magic to watching the sun set. It is a way to acknowledge a moment of our existence and appreciate the world we live in.
The left screen is a real-time video of the sun going down in Venice, Italy. The right screen is a close up view of the sun, created using time-coded images obtained from NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory. The close up view of the sun corresponds to the exact same time as the Venice sunset.
Sun images are courtesy of NASA/SDO and the AIA, EVE, and HMI science teams.
